At the same time, we are working to reduce the formation of food waste and rational use of products so that they do not become waste.
We transfer goods to farmers
To prevent the formation of waste, we transfer goods that have lost their presentation before the expiration date to contractors for livestock feed and composting. The initiative involves all the Company's retail chains, as well as the X5 Food and Direct Import business units.
Pyaterochka
Only in Pyaterochka in 2024, all regions of the network's presence were connected to this program, and the volume of transferred products exceeded 122 thousand tons.
Chizhik
Chizhik joined Pyaterochka's counterparty base in 2024, expanding its own list of potential partners to cover all regions of its presence.
Perekrestok
In Perekrestok employees independently sort such goods into five categories into transparent containers, which allows farmers who purchase them to be sure that they fully meet their goals and do not contain fractions unsuitable for use in as livestock feed or raw materials for compost. In 2024, the chain's stores and distribution centers transferred more than 438 thousand tons of waste to farmers.
We develop foodsharing
The direction of foodsharing is actively developing – the gratuitous transfer of products to those in need before the expiration date, but fully fit for consumption.
We open Shops at the DC
To prevent unnecessary write-offs, in October 2024, the Shops at the DC project was launched at Crossroads, where products blocked for shipment due to a short shelf life are sold to employees of the network's distribution centers. The project allows us not only to reduce the amount of write-offs, ensuring the achievement of financial and sustainable development goals of the Company, but also increases the loyalty of the network's employees, as evidenced by their feedback. DC employees have the opportunity to purchase our products at special prices and in a convenient location. Currently, the Store on DC is successfully operating in the Severny DC, and in 2025 we will launch two more stores – in the Sofino DC and in St. Petersburg.
We send the leftovers of products for useful use
Whenever possible, we send the leftovers of products produced in our own production for useful use: for example, Perekrestok. For future use Vprok.ru has introduced two items of dog treats into its assortment: beef and chicken trimmings, which allowed us to avoid the monthly write-off of about 150 kg of such products.
