Food drives with Foodbank Rus

The Basket of Kindness social project was launched by X5 Group and Foodbank Rus in 2015. X5 was the first among Russian retailers to build infrastructure for carrying out food drives and continues to develop this infrastructure today. The two partners organise regular food drives in which volunteers collect food items dropped off by customers at in-store food donation points to help people in need. A total of more than 1800 tonnes of food have been donated through this project since 2015. Since November 2017, donations are also accepted through the Basket of Kindness project website

Basket of kindness collects over 518 tonnes of food for people in need in 2022: Pyaterochka and Perekrestok collected 295 tonnes of food through a total of 17 food drives held at their stores. An additional 13 tonnes of food were purchased using funds collected via the Basket of Kindness website, with X5 donating another 210 tonnes of food from its own stocks. Last year, “baskets of kindness” containing donated food were distributed to 199,156 people in 40 regions of Russia.
